Details of the $8M Settlement Case
Pitocin was negligently used in an attempt to assist a mother through delivery.
There were also indications of fetal tachycardia and there were several
hours of recurrent late decelerations. The baby was born largely unresponsive
yet doctors did not use
therapeutic hypothermia to help prevent or minimize
brain damage. The child has since been diagnosed with
cerebral palsy,
Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), and a number of other chronic health conditions that could have
been avoided with proper medical care. The $8 million settlement will
help pay for preexisting medical costs, all future treatments and rehabilitation,
and provide for noneconomic damages, such as pain and suffering of the
child and the family.
