When Beam Legal Team learned about the Skylar Henkes Foundation, we knew this was exactly the kind of organization we wanted to support. We understand firsthand the challenges that families face when a child is born with birth injuries or conditions like cerebral palsy.
That’s why we were honored to serve as a “birdie sponsor” for the inaugural Skylar Henkes Foundation Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Virginia.
The tournament’s theme, “Drive Change for Disabilities,” captured the spirit of the event. All day, golfers came together to support the cause of making southern West Virginia more accessible and inclusive for people with developmental disabilities.
About the Skylar Henkes Foundation
The Skylar Henkes Foundation is a remarkable nonprofit organization based in Mercer County, West Virginia. It honors the memory of Skylar, a tenacious 3-year-old girl who had cerebral palsy secondary to hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy—a condition that often results from oxygen deprivation during birth.
As attorneys who work with families affected by birth injuries, we understand the profound impact such conditions can have on children and their loved ones. Despite her challenges, Skylar found joy in gardening alongside her parents, an activity that brought the family together and provided a meaningful outlet for connection and growth.
Today, the foundation sells beautiful, locally grown seasonal flowers throughout southern West Virginia. Every bouquet sold directly supports their grant program, which provides essential equipment and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities. Through these grants, the foundation helps improve independence and quality of life for those they serve, creating a more inclusive community one flower at a time.
